Photovoltaic, or solar electric systems, are composed of panels, mounts, batteries and wires. They are installed as a way of powering one's house. They may be installed to a roof facing any direction, though it is ideally placed on a Southwest facing position. Solar electric systems have the potential to save the client money on their utility bill, essentially returning the money spent on it. The panels are used to pull photons from certain types of wavelengths in the sun’s rays. The modules may be mounted on the ground, but a rooftop solar panel may also be installed on the top of the house. As long as the set up isn’t placed in the shade, it will work very efficiently.
A single cell consists of materials like monocrystalline silicon, multicrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon and amorphous silicon. It exploits the photoelectric effect allowing the cells to release volts that are in the sunlight and absorbs them into the solar electric systems. The cell produces very little useable energy on its own. It must be connected with an array to form a module. This enables it to produce up to 300 watts. With 10 to 20 photovoltaic arrays, one can power their entire residence easily. The performance is measured via the panel’s efficiency, which is how much energy it is capable of producing per day.
A panel is comprised of the cell and a few other materials. It has a top surface, usually made up of glass. Thin sheets of ethyl vinyl acetate, called encapsulant, are used to hold the module together. The module’s rear layer is a thin polymer film that locks out water and gases. The aluminum frame completes the panel. The solar electric systems have a few components that keep them balanced. Depending on if the grid is connected, the set-up is a standalone or it is a hybrid installation, it will have different types of balancers. They may include mounting racks, hardware, electrical wiring, an inverter, batteries and a generator.
Several panels are hooked up together to create the array. The generator produces a direct flow that the inverter converts to a useable current of power. Any left-over energy is sent to a storage unit, to be sold or used later. The storage unit may be a set of batteries, or simply the grid. The client can choose between the two methods of installing solar power, depending on their amount of available space. They are mounted either to the roof or installed on the ground, whichever receives more direct sunlight. The roof is a more space efficient method for many homeowners. On the yard, they may be upgraded to track the sun as it passes through the sky.
When one chooses to have solar electric systems installed for their household, they must consider first the limitations of their space. They may need to install their panels to the roof, even though they may have preferred the yard. The client also must go with a trustworthy and efficient brand of materials, as the panels are important to the amount of power they may acquire. The boards may operate at 11-15 percentage of power, though it is possible to locate some as high as 19 percent. Either way, the client will save money by utilizing this green energy source.
